As the depletion of the ozone layer proceeds, global demand for photochromic products is increasing. Tokuyama is aggressively developing operations mainly in Europe, where sunglasses are accepted to people’s particular liking, while also taking the U.S., the world's largest market, into consideration. Tokuyama also produces and markets hard coatings that are applied to lens surfaces to prevent scratching, coating materials for preventing water stains on lenses, basic materials for plastic lenses, and primer that increases adhesion strength of coatings on lenses.
The "bulks" of pharmaceutical are technical grade of compounds synthesized specifically for the production of pharmaceuticals. Intermediates are organic chemical compounds used as intermediate materials in pharmaceuticals, paints, and dyes. In the Fine Chemicals business unit, we also concentrate our efforts on pharmaceutical technical products and intermediates operations, including contract manufacturing and bulks of generic medicines which is promoted by the goverment recently.
In the production of pharmaceutical technical products, Tokuyama follows Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines to manufacture products of the finest quality in accordance with the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law of Japan. GMP comprises structural facility standards for factories, as well as production management and quality control standards. In Kashima Factory, we produce high quality products based on facilities and management practices in line with GMP standards.
