The IC Chemicals business unit deals primarily in high-purity chemicals used in the production of semiconductors and flat panel displays (FPD).
Core products are TOKUSO IPA-SE, an isopropyl alcohol used in electronics manufacturing, and the SD Series of positive-type photoresist developer. These products command the top shares in the world. IPA-SE is used for waterless cleaning of silicon wafers, and the developer is used in the photolithography process for resist developing on silicon wafers and glass substrates.
With the advent of new technology, such as 32nm patterning, a higher degree of purity is required in the chemicals used. Tokuyama has developed high-purity chemicals that meet these increasingly stringent specifications. The integration of its systems from manufacturing through supply and the high quality of its products has earned an excellent reputation for the Company.
Growth in sales of developer has been especially rapid as a result of the swift pace of progress in the liquid crystal market. The Company has manufacturing and sales bases in Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and China to serve the liquid crystal manufacturers of the Asian region, and has built a system that is oriented toward energetic growth.
In addition, Tokuyama will continue to develop a recycling business targeting high purity chemicals and developer used in semiconductor and FPD manufacturing, to pioneer new applications for developer, and to develop new businesses around new materials.
The core product of Tokuyama's Cleaning System business unit is methylene chloride for metal-washing, which we market under the brand name METACLENE. METACLENE is a nonflammable, high performance degreaser and cleaner that has long been used in metal processing. At present, however, it requires a proper handling precaution from environmental aspects. Therefore, Tokuyama provides users with consulting services in that regard also, by establishing a project team that is called the Environment, Health & Seafety (EH&S) Promotion Team.
