Business Activities

The New Organic Chemicals Business mainly handles isopropyl alcohol (IPA) for industrial use. Since IPA is compatible with both of water and oil, it is able to dissolve a wide variety of substances, and it is widely used as a solvent for paints and inks. In addition, IPA is used as a medical disinfectant before patients receive injections. Amid growing demand due to economic expansion in Asia, Tokuyama is fulfilling its responsibility, as the second largest domestic producer in terms of volume, by supplying enough IPA to meet this burgeoning demand.

Based on our award-winning method, Tokuyama IPA is produced with an innovative, harmless process that emits no atmospheric pollutants or industrial waste. This process is based on the Tokuyama technologies for the propylene direct hydration method that won the Japan Petroleum Institute Award for Technological Progress in 1974, the Mainichi Industrial Technology Awards in 1975, and The Chemical Society of Japan Award for Technical Development in 1976. In addition to the benefits of energy conservation and lower costs, Tokuyama IPA has gained a high reputation among various industries for its consistently high quality. IPA has recently been confirmed safe as a food additive, so we expect demand to increase in this field as well.
