Contribution to structuring a recycling-based society

Tokuyama's cement factory accepts and recycles a large volume of waste and by-products from inside and outside, like other industries and local municipalities. All of the waste is efficiently recycled as thermal energy or raw materials. Such effective utilization of waste and by-products in our cement factory provides significant support in shaping a recycling-based society as it helps reduce consumption of depleting natural resources and emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) , and prolongs the life of final disposal sites.

In fiscal 2005, the waste materials and by-products reutilized in our cement factory amounted to 2.21 million tons. Of this amount, 310,000 tons of waste was generated internally, and six times this volume, or 1.90 million tons, was accepted from external sources. This figure is more than double the amount of waste (670,000 tons) generated in local communities of Yamaguchi Prefecture.

Learn more about the recycling activities at our cement factory on our recycling & environment business page, part of our Business Activities site.
