Summary

NF Sheets are polypropylene microporous films and Porum are polyethylene microporous films.

Water is blocked from permeation, but air and moisture is allowed to pass through the film. Microporous films are used alone and combined with other materials such as nonwoven fabrics. NFR Sheets and laminated Lami Porum are also available.

Applications

NF Sheets are mainly combined with nonwoven fabrics and used as a dehumidifier, drying agent and deoxidant, and for preserving freshness in breathable packaging.

Porum is mainly used for the back sheets in disposable diapers, and also in waterproof and moisture permeable sheets for building materials, composting sheets, agricultural mulching sheets, simple sweaters, and disposable pocket warmer packaging.

Characteristics

  • Excels as breathable and moisture permeable material, allowing air, moisture and gas to pass through.
  • Waterproof - revents passage of water
  • Works as a filter to separate microparticles and liquid.
  • Does not emit irritant or harmful gases in combustion.
  • Resists tearing with strong crisscross balance thanks to Tokuyama’s proprietary technique by filling biaxial stretching production method.

NF Sheets have body, good air permeability, excellent incombustibility and strong heat seal characteristics. Porum has a soft texture and grades with excellent flexibility.

As seen in the picture, a polyolefin sheet filled with refined inorganic filler (calcium carbonate particles) is biaxially stretched. As a result, the filler portion becomes the core, the pores open, and it becomes a continuous hole of overlaying openings 0.3-5μm in diameter. Air passes through but water does not.

Typical applications

Main applications include back sheets for disposable diapers and dehumidifier cover sheets, as well as the following applications.

Agricultural mulching sheet

Planting orange and cherry trees in bedrock lowers the water content of soil because rainwater does not seep sufficiently underground. This causes sweeter fruit to be produced. Porum's white color reflects sunlight, helping in the nurturing of beautiful fruit with no color imperfections.
