Tokuyama's NF Business manufactures and sells films that repel water but allow air and moisture to penetrate. These properties make the films, which are known as air-permeable films and microporous films, highly useful for various products including disposable diapers and other household-use consumable goods that absorb moisture. Because the films repel water while enabling moisture to escape, they are also used in many products that require these features, including building and agricultural materials.

Demand for disposable diapers and other sanitary products has been growing rapidly in recent years in emerging countries such as China. Tokuyama began producing microporous film in Shanghai in 2004, and increased production capacity there in 2011. The company also established a new factory in Tianjin, China, in 2012. Looking ahead, Tokuyama intends to continue expanding the Nano-Filtration Business globally to meet growing demand. The company plans to enhance this business by developing new applications for these films by leveraging their special qualities, aiming to contribute to new fields.

Porum is a polyethylene microporous film that repels water but allows air and moisture to pass through. Tokuyama also offers Lami Porum, a laminated film that can be combined with non-woven fabrics and cloth yarn.

Applications

Porum is mainly used as back sheets for disposable diapers and feminine napkins. Other uses include waterproof moisture-permeable sheets for building materials, agricultural mulching sheets, and material for windbreakers.

The Porum PH series is made using Tokuyama's proprietary biaxially-stretched tubular process to ensure a soft texture and good stretchability, as well as strong and balanced crisscross stitching that makes the material resistant to tearing. Polyethylene sheets filled with calcium carbonate as refined inorganic filler are stretched bi-axially, causing the overlapping surfaces of the filler and polyethylene to detach and create holes, forming an integrated microporous structure.
The Porum PM series is highly suitable for processing, making it easy for customers to use on their production lines with good cost performance

Applications

Because they can be combined with non-woven fabrics and cloth yarn, the NF Sheet is used for air-permeable packing materials, household-use moisture-absorption agents and drying agents.
