Research and Development is driving force behind the growth of Tokuyama, which is developing diverse businesses centered on high technological capabilities.
The Corporate Development Dept. is in charge of creating new products and new businesses for the future of Tokuyama in its R&D activities, being independent of any business division. Focusing on the fields of "Environment & Energy" and "Information & Electronics" and taking advantage of our core technologies and materials, we are making efforts to develop innovative technologies through cooperating with research institutions including universities, under the mission that we create new products and new businesses to spur Tokuyama's new growth.
The researchers in our department share a slogan, "Making our research lab a one that boasts the one and only technologies in the world," and are constantly concentrating their energies on R&D activities. Thinking highly of originality and self-direction, we have lively discussion regardless of position or age, which characterizes Tokuyama, a company of vitality. Moreover, we have a close relationship with related sections including the Management of Technology Div., the R&D Planning Dept., the Intellectual Property Dept. and the RC Research Laboratory. We have established an organization that makes it possible for us to respond to a change of the times flexibly and speedily.
Some of our areas of focus are introduced below.
In the "Environment & Energy" field, taking advantage of our high technological excellence in ion-exchange membranes and electrochemistry, we are developing electrolyte materials for fuel cells that are given attention as a clean energy source as well as a power source for mobile devices. We exhibit these materials at FC EXPO (International Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Expo) every year. As hot products, they are getting a lot of people's attention.
In the "Information & Electronics" field, we are pushing ahead with our projects for development of single-crystal aluminum nitride (AℓN) as a material for next-generation light-emitting diodes, and fluoride single crystals as a material for scintillators in cooperation with universities.
Looking ahead into the future, we will commercialize present themes promptly. At the same time we will launch new R&D themes and projects, and develop a group of high-value-added and competitive products only Tokuyama can create.
