Mr. Kanji Sakata, General Manager of the R&D Planning Dept.

Tokuyama reorganized the former R&D Promoting Dept. and changed its name to the R&D Planning Dept. on April 1, 2010. By this organizational change the R&D Planning Dept. was established as a section that is engaged particularly in searching for R&D themes.

Technology is continually advancing. Under such technological circumstances, a company cannot achieve corporate and business growth without improving and innovating its own technology. Tokuyama needs to search for new technology and realize technological innovations from a strategic viewpoint in order to boost the competitiveness and potential of its businesses or ensure its business growth. In addition, as Tokuyama’s businesses are now reaching maturity, it is essential for Tokuyama to create new businesses.

We search for new technology that can give birth to new businesses, adopt it as a R&D theme and upgrade it to Tokuyama’s unique technology, and make it realized to create new products and businesses that will support the future growth of Tokuyama.

When we search for R&D themes, we focus on the growth fields of “Environment & Energy,” “Information & Electronics,” and “Life & Healthcare.” In these theme fields our R&D policy is to make the most of core technologies and materials that the Tokuyama Group including its group companies has, and to actively introduce technologies that Tokuyama does not have from external institutions including universities.

We closely collaborate with all technical sections and research institutions inside and outside the company, and search for new technology and enhance Tokuyama’s R&D capability and technological capability under its management slogan, “Venture Spirit & Innovation,” in order to achieve its Centennial Vision.
