Message from the General Manager Research & Development Division

Katsumi Nagase
Senior Managing Executive Officer, General Manager, Research & Development Division

From fiscal year 2026, our R&D Division has undergone a bold transformation. We have shifted from a site-based structure-centered on the Tsukuba and Tokuyama Research Laboratory-to a function-based development organization designed to enhance agility and strategic focus. In conjunction with this reorganization, the Eco-Business Development Dept. and the Electronic & Advanced Materials Development Dept. have been transferred from the business divisions, while the Technology Strategy Dept. has been transferred to the Corporate Planning Division. This structure enables the seamless integration of management strategy and technology strategy, and will decisively accelerate our business portfolio transformation toward the electronics, healthcare, and environmental fields.

To become a truly value-creating company, Tokuyama must pursue R&D that is firmly driven by a clear vision of the end market-always in close partnership with our customers. An "end-focused" approach to R&D means continuously asking how our research outcomes will translate into concrete products, how those products will solve real challenges faced by society, industry, and customers, and how they will ultimately generate sustainable returns.
Guided by this mindset, we will further sharpen our core strengths while actively exploring and integrating ideas through collaboration with leading research institutions and corporate partners, both in Japan and around the world. We will act with speed and determination, concentrating on our resources on high-impact, high-probability projects. At the same time, by working in close alignment with our Engineering Center responsible for production process development, we will rapidly establish mass-production capabilities and ensure a swift and seamless transition from development to commercialization.
